Volunteers Wanted

With a tremendous increase in courses and participants for Term 1, SPLC is looking for more volunteers to assist with reception duties.
Volunteers are required to answer the telephone, enrol members in courses and general inquiry and administration tasks such as filing, etc.
Current opening hours are 9.00am - 3.30pm and we wish to extend to 5.00pm each day and introduce by introducing a 5pm - 7pm shift once or twice each week. This will coincide with the local library so we can cross promote our services.
Any person interested in the 3pm - 5pm, or 5pm - 7pm periods are encouraged to contact the Centre on 9367 1254 or email admin@splc.org.au.
Training will be given and new volunteers will have an experienced person to work beside until they feel confident in their role.
Have an informal chat today about becoming a volunteer with either Daphne Smith the Centre Manager or Veronica Lawrance, the Chairperson (0409 035 343).
We hope to welcome you into the SPLC centre soon!

Enrolment Day Term 1 2012

Enrolment day for Term 1 was a reosunding success as usual!
Offering more than 57 courses, 613 enrolments were taken - our best ever to date!
Some classes still have a few places left and there are many different and diverse talks scheduled over the next 6 weeks.
So, if you missed out on enrolment day it may still be possible to get into one (or two) of our fabulous events planned for this Term.

PLEASE NOTE the new parking restrictions in the car park. Parking for members is available from rows 3 and 4 but please avoid parking in marked bays reserved for CoSP staff and the Child Health Centre.

SPLC 24th AGM

SPLC Celebrated its 24th Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 21 September 2011.

Mayor James Best, Cr Kevin Trent, Manager Community Culture and Recreation Services Sandra Watson and Acting Executive Manager Jayne Shilcott from LinkWest attended the AGM along with over 30 members and volunteers.

Chairman of SPLC, Veronica Lawrance welcomed everyone and introduced Mayour James Best who addressed the meeting congratulating SPLC on its achievements over the last 9 months since its relocation. James spoke about the vision of the SPLC in embracing change and increasing their numbers, courses and volunteer base.

Following the agnenda business, the Chairman gave an overview of the successes of the year and thanked the City of South Perth for their generosity in providing the Centre and the Demonstration Kitchen; the Royal Perth Golf Club for their donation to furnish the reception area and LotteryWest for their grant to provide all the classroom furnishings.

Jayne Shilcott spoke on the Centre's successes and involvement with LinkWest as the supporting body for Learning Centres and presented the Centre with up to date material for use in the adminstration.

Ron Coombs, on behalf of the Volunteers, presented Veronica with a book commemorating her role as Transition Coordinator in 2010/11 and spoke about Veronica's passion for the Centre and her enthusiasm for the role during that period.
